             abstract = "The speckle noise in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images derives 
                         from the coherent illumination of this system. To reduce the 
                         speckle noise, several filters have been proposed in the 
                         literature. In a previous work [Mascarenhas et al (1991)], a 
                         comparison among several classical speckle reduction filters was 
                         performed, from the point of view of signal-to-noise ratio 
                         improvement. The purpose of this work is to extend the previous 
                         work by analyzing the classical filters and the new ones based on 
                         the theory of robust estimation, from the complementary point of 
                         view of spatial resolution loss. This is done by measuring the 
                         ability of the filters to preserve edges and by computing the 
                         blurring of the point spread function of an ideal point target due 
                         to filtering.",
