		<abstract>Disparity-Based Photometric Stereo (DBPS) is a computer vision process based on the correspondence between pairs of photometric stereo images, from which a photometric disparity map can be obtained which encodes surface curvature information. Here we formulate a linear approximation to DBPS through the linearization of the reflectance map function, which is the function relating image intensities to surface orientation. We show that linear DBPS allows the recovery of relative depth from the photometric disparity map, and illustrate our approach in simple experiments with synthetic imagery.</abstract>
