AbstractMathematical Morphology theory has been recently used as a basis for the proposal of new edge detectors in digital images. The purpose of this paper is to present an evaluation of the performance of six morphological edge detectors with respect to sensitivity of their response to edge orientation and edge displacement, in both horizontal and diagonal directions. One example of the application of the one these detectors for the delineation of linear features ins urban areas of a Landsat image is also presented.
